BSkyB & Sony join for PSP video on demand service
BSkyB (British Sky Broadcasting) has entered into a joint venture with Sony to make video on demand available to the 2.3 million PlayStation Portable owners in the UK and Ireland in early 2008.
The joint venture company have equal board level representation from Sky and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.
The service, which will be the first PSP video download service in Europe, will deliver television programmes, films, sports and entertainment videos to PSPs via either the unit’s built-in WiFi connection or a connection to a PC.
The content will be available on either a subscription or pay-per-view basis.
BSkyB is also planning similar deals with other manufactures such as Nintendo after the Sony joint venture is established.
