Three Star channels added to GekTV in US and Canada
Star and GekTV are launching three Mandarin language Star channels on the US-based GekTV IPTV platform on 15 March 2008.
The three channels are Star Chinese Channel, an entertainment channel in Taiwan; Channel [V] Taiwan, a music channel; and Star Chinese Movies, which is dedicated to Hong Kong films.
Star is a wholly owned subsidiary of News Corporation, and broadcasts over 60 channels in 10 languages to 53 countries in Asia.
GekTV Entertainment is a Chinese language distribution platform in the US. Through a partnership with Tai Seng Media (Asia), GekTV will deliver the three Star channels to paying subscribers across the US via its proprietary set-top box to TV sets.
Tai Seng Media will provide all head-end solutions and monitor the delivery of the three live channel feeds to North America.
The channels will launch on GekTV’s Mandarin package. GekTV’s service is currently available throughout the US and will be launched in Canada in April 2008
