4oD registers 100 million views
Channel 4’s streaming and download service 4oD, has had 100 million views and downloads since its launch in January 2006.
What’s more, the popularity of the service is growing rapidly, with the number of people using PCs to access 4oD up 110% since 1 January 2008, with six million streams or downloads.
Usage is even greater via other platforms - 4oD is also available via Virgin Media cable TV, Tiscali TV and BT Vision, where it has 2.3 million users compared with 1 million PC based users.
4oD still has a way to go to catch up with the BBC’s iPlayer service though. The iPlayer recorded 11 million streams or downloads in January, helped by an energetic marketing programme.
4oD’s five most popular shows are Hollyoaks, Skins, Shameless, Big Brother and Peep Show.
