UT Starcom wins contract for IPTV
The contact was put out to tender by China Telecom, and is to provide its Rolling Stream end and end IPTV solutions for a brand new IPTV network in the North West China region of Ninqxia Hui.
UT Starcom will supply all the equipment needed to run a complete IPTV operation; this will include the streaming servers, and the set top boxes. They will also supply a complete Rolling Stream solution, which will complete the requirements.
This IPTV network will provide subscribers with some 52 channels of broadcast TV, with 48 hour long time shifting capabilities, 3,000 hours of on demand video content, plus a variety of interactive applications such as karaoke, online games, and all the other expected applications.
There is enough capacity for around 10,000 subscribers within this network alone, it may not sound much, but as IPTV is in reality in its infancy and this is China that we are talking about, 10,000 is a good figure. However having said that, UT Starcoms Rolling Stream technology is the most widely used IPTV platform in the whole of China, it covers thirteen provinces and already has over 270,000 subscribers.
China is not the market that UT Starcom are involved in they are recognised as a leading manufacturer and supplier of IPTV equipment on a global scale, offering wireless and wired products, handsets and set top boxes to worldwide markets.
