Digital programming hots up
Cable operators are gearing up to offer consumers more bang for their buck.
The wave of the future seems to be focused mainly in the directions of Internet and IPTV. The tuner systems, referred to as set top boxes, are also on the radar of those companies intent on breaking into the new technology markets. With digitalization, these set top boxes open the way for the operators to provide Internet and IPTV.
The race to digitalize content has already been heating up among potential providers. Digital programming is the way of the future, and is the steering point for the other technological provisions. IPTV, VOIP, and most of the new computer, internet, and broadband technology utilize digitalized content.
Ortel Communications if just one of the proactive companies that have entered the race to dominate the IPTV and Internet markets. It already has completed a pilot project for voice connectivity. According to the Vice President of the company, Bibhu Rath, Ortel Communications is only waiting for a unified license. With this, it will be in a position to offer full-fledged telephony service.
Other cable operators are also working towards IPTV, Internet, video on demand, local programming and content. Home Cable Entertainment is looking at initializing a pilot project to see if IPTV has a future. Only Entertainment has already secured rights for movies and gaming content.
