Joost has over a million users
In around a year Joost a venture started by Niklas Sandstorm (Co Founder of Skype and Kazaa) and Janus Friis has managed to excite enough people to sign up and join in the party.
Joost the IPTV start up which allows free access to YouTube like service, but without all of the problems that YouTube have found themselves in, with some copyrighted content. Joost provide authorised content, which also includes advertising etc. It could be said that Joost has done the YouTube experience in a better way, which is probably why they have grown quickly.
What is even more amazing is that Joost is still in the Beta stages, but that is due to come to an end when they plan to launch the full version later on in the year. They have some great support too, from the likes of CBS, CNN, Sony and Viacom to name just the major players, there are many others including advertiser too, once launched Joost will fast become a leading playing in offering an IPTV service.
Joost originally an invite only site, quickly opened up to allow people to invite themselves through a signup form, this allowed them to then download the software and potentially gain access to 150 on demand channels.
However at one stage to demand was so great that it did have an effect on the quality of the videos as they became jumpy etc, but clearly this must have been sorted out now, otherwise launching before hand could have some serious implications for the future.
