Babelgum has plans for IPTV
Babelgum is often compared to Joost. But although there maybe similarities between the two, Babelgum is seen as more of the grown up in IPTV, and to prove this they plan to offer users professionally produced content, which is available through channels that learn about the users likes and as a result will push new related content their way. So user will need to be aware of what they watch!
The IPTV provider was started by Silvio Scaglia, who put his money where his mouth is, to the tune of $13 million, and also managed to raise a further $292 million through other sources.
Silvio Scaglia believes that there are no technical limitations on what IPTV can deliver, in fact he is looking at the fact there could be unlimited libraries of content available to anyone, anywhere in the world. At the moment there are around 300 million people with a fast Internet connection, but this figure is set to rise very fast over the next couple years. This is not counting the set top boxes, integrated televisions and wired connections. It is clear to see how the market can grow, possibly even double over a short period of time.
Although still in the beta testing stage, Babelgum already have 2,000 hours of content available. But as that amount grows, it will expand to 50,000 hours or even 100,000 hours before they launch properly during the first quarter of 2008.
