Teleste Believes Hybrid TV is the Solution

by Alan Harten

Teleste is looking to a harmonious future where existing providers, such as cable and satellite, can live alongside emerging IPTV.

They also believe that there will be a third option, a marriage of IPTY and traditional systems, a Hybrid TV system that takes the best of all methods of broadcasting.

Their new hybrid TV solution will allow great flexibility in the services offered. Operators could go with just DVB or IPTV on its own, or they could offer a combination of the two in the form of a DVB/IPTV that could reach the home via either broadband or cable.

Teleste MyCast is the key to making this work. With this solution they can offer HFC (hybrid fibre-coaxial), xDSL, EttH, and FttH.

They do not see a winner in this race, rather systems that live side by side or are combined to produce a best of both worlds experience for viewers.

With the hybrid, it will be reasonably easy for operators to add on all kinds of services not available to traditional broadcasting, such as interactive content.

Other services such as VoD can been added, as well as telephone and messenger services.

Time shifting is another hybrid feature, and mobile phones can even be utilised as a feedback channel in VoD applications.

This system is based on open standards, so operators can simply add hybrid TV without bringing in a whole new infrastructure set up.
