Harmonic Launches DiviCom Ion AVC HD Encoder
Harmonic Inc has launched their new DiviCom Ion MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) high definition (HD) encoder.
This is the company’s latest solution for HD video constant bit-rate (CBR).
It is an IP-based encoder that is intended mainly for use with IPTV deployments, and can also be utilised with other switched video delivery apps.
The company says that this is the densest solutions in its class.
It has four HD H.264 channels and it is capable of handling four picture in picture channels, but those are at low resolution.
The new unit is efficient in terms of power usage, taking up just 75 watts per channel.
There is a good level of integration with the company’s video and audio decoding unit the DiviCom FLEX fordecode and re-encode. The
AVC also has multi-pass LookAhead encoding for high quality HD, but with very low bit rates.
The company is looking to satisfy the telcos who need a quality HD video set-up with VBI format handling, and support for multiple audio formats.
