NDS Crowned Global IPTV DRM King
Two of the most respected market research firms in the industry, Current Analysis and ABI Research, are seemingly both of the opinion that NDS is currently in pole position in the areas of content security and Digital Rights Management (DRM) solutions for IPTV platforms.
NDS operates worldwide, offering different content protection packages aimed at avoiding content piracy, mainly in the area of Pay-TV/ IPTV.
They have an impressive client base that includes many of the main suppliers in many markets across the world.
Their main platform, known as VideoGuard, is aimed at protecting telcos premium content and also offers triple-play and quad-play clients’ new money making services.
The system is flexible and can be used with many kinds of delivery, including broadcast TV, Video-on-Demand (VOD) and Client and Network Digital Video Recorders (DVR).
VideoGuard can boast very widespread use and the company claims that it is utilized in no less than 90 million devices across the globe.
The company has other anti theft systems, including Unified Headend for third party apps on many devices including STBs, DVRs, mobile phones, PCs, and Personal Media Players (PMPs).
For content providers there is little point in putting out movies, audio or TV if it is not secure.
Many operators are looking to IP technology to attract more customers and these services can offer interactive elements, as well as the increasingly popular non-linear content.
The latest Vendor Matrix from ABI shows NDS at the top of the list, based mostly on its huge footprint with a massive existing and potential client base.
They consider NDS to have a dominant position in the arena of IPTV content protection.
The other highly recognised market research organisation, Current Analysis, agrees as their own findings concur with ABI.
