Italian telco Wind to launch IPTV service

by Lin Freestone

It is anticipated that Italian telco Wind is preparing its new IPTV service for launch in Italy by Christmas 2007. Italy already has access to IPTV from service provider FASTWEB and Telecom Italia’s new Alice Home TV service.

Wind will be only a distributor and not a content producer. Prices for the new service will be low, in line with the company’s strategy, and there will also be the possibility of combining other fixed line services such as voice and broadband Internet.

Wind’s new IPTV service will offer all of the Sky Italia channels, and other thematic channels that will be added later. Subscribers will be offered the latest Motorola set-top box model, to be distributed exclusively in Italy.
