Olympics broadcast on IPTV in China

by Alan Harten

The official Internet and Mobile Broadcaster for the 2008 Olympic Games CCTV, China Central Television, launched its new IPTV service to coincide with the opening of the games.

Envivio was fortunate to be chosen to give the service its IP video convergence encoding solutions services.

Envivio IPTV encoders offer low latency encoding with high, and are well suited for sports content such as the Olympics.

The 4Caster encoders in use by CCTV.com are currently configured for MPEG-4 AVC encoding.

Envivio’s software-based encoding core was used by CCTV to convert the content or delivery in Chinese AVS encoding format, most importantly this was achieved without the need for any hardware modifications.

Envivio will be demonstrating its encoding solution for the Three Screens at IBC 2008 in Amsterdam in September.
