by Alan Harten

TANDBERG Television, owned by Ericsson Group has said that its OpenStream Digital Services platform has been selected by Portugal’s ZON TVCabo for its planned video on-demand (VOD) services. They will also be lead integrator for the VOD play-out.

Zon TVCabo, part of ZON Multimédia Portugal which has over 1.5 million subscribers, is creating a VOD system.

They currently operate pay-TV, broadband internet and telephony options.

Its pay-TV service is available nationwide through both cable and satellite platforms, and consists of over 100 digital TV and radio channels as well as services such as multi-cameras, multi-games and VOD.

TVCabo sees the deployment of its VOD services as the next step in the company’s service provision for its customers.

With a digital network already in place, TVCabo needed a platform that is flexible, allowing the smooth transition to VOD.

The TANDBERG OpenStream platform allows cable operators to deploy on-demand and nPVR services using VOD servers, applications, billing systems, and other system components of their choice.

OpenStream is already in use in North America, and has multiple users in Asia.
