IPTV and Calix in Canada

by Kathryn Lang

Canada’s IPTV service is about to be impacted by Calix. The company is a major telecom equipment supplier that is focused on access solutions for broadband service delivery. It has been chosen by several Canadian companies to build their IPTV capabilities and infrastructure.

The Calix C7 multi-service access platform will overbuild the current operator and extend new fiber transport facilities. It will deliver voice, high-speed Internet access, and IPTV services.

Calix offers the three Canadian companies flexibility in access network upgrades. It is also equally employable on both fiber and copper. Another positive factor of the C7 multi-service platform is that it functions with business and residential services alike.

The IPTV services that will be provided over the Calix C7 will not be in the initial start up phase. The group of providers is looking to add the IPTV at a future date. The new platform will go into effect with regards to voice and internet in the beginning of 2008.

It is expected that the Calix C7 platform will make operations more efficient. It will also give companies the bandwidth headroom needed to support the demands of IPTV and other IP-based services. It will also make very high speed internet access a reality for many subscribers.

Calix has been involved with IPTV providers throughout North America. It has been responsible for millions of ports and thousands of systems. It will continue to expand and improve the IPTV offerings in the region.
