itaas & TVWorks Announce Collaboration

by Rohan Parker

A new partnership between itaas Inc. and TVWorks LLC was announced today, which will see huge development potential for television applications because of the addition of TVWorks tru2way and enhanced television (ETV) standard-based platforms to istart, itaas’s developer program.

This collaboration should bring about faster development for new TV services for set-top boxes already in use, and those yet to be installed.

The agreement outlined means that the leading multi-platform MSO solution provider, itaas, will have access to developers and programmers who are responsible for the deployment of interactive digital media, in order to create new and innovative TV applications.

TVWorks will be able to implement a range of software upgrades and have access to the industry knowledge of itaas from perception through to full implementation.

SVP of Product Management & Business Development at TVWorks, Greg Thomson, spoke about the opportunity to expand the itaas application, istart, with the TVWorks platforms which would lead to a much broader volume and faster velocity for new TV services.

Thomson believed this would be an added incentive for new subscribers, and make the service more differentiated from cable.

President and CEO of itaas, Vibha Rustagi, said that he believed the partnership, and the subsequent use of ETV and tru2way platforms, would lead to a dramatic reduction in deployment barriers, as these platforms work across both legacy and next generation devices.

Rustagi said that he was delighted to have itaas involved in TVWorks’ first external developer platform and to be working on new and unique applications based upon the Enhanced TV platform already in use.
