Two out of three consumers want IPTV
That is according to a survey by iSupply, they have found that almost two out of three consumers want the ability to connect their TV’s to the internet, but the results are somewhat strange because there are not many people who actually do have their televisions connected to the internet and yet nearly two thirds want it, and in the US two thirds is a huge marketplace.
But people who use the internet for both work and pleasure are more likely to be aware of what the possibilities are, they use all manner of devices for work and entertainment like computers, games machines, cell phones and digital TV, but what would really make that so fantastic is if there was a way to combine the whole lot into one package, making the TV the central access point to everything that they want.
The problem is that although there are a range of solutions to this, there is no outright leader on the market, if you take for instance digital TV in the UK, SKY is the forerunner, so if there was a SKY type IPTV a leader in the market who sets the precedence to which other will follow, then IPTV will take off as SKY did in the 1980’s.
What consumers will do with this new found technology is anyone’s guess, the key is entertainment, the market is driven by this and how consumers choose to use this, will depend on their personal preferences. If the gaming, music, movies, internet and events markets are all accessible through the TV then there is going to be a huge push from all of these providers to get a slice of the consumers free time.
