TV over the Internet growing steadily
According to Continental Research’s Autumn 2007 Internet & Convergence Report, there has been a steady increase in the number of people watching TV over the Internet.
Channel 4’s on demand service, 4oD, was found to be the most popular - it is watched by a quarter of Internet users. The BBC’s on demand service was the second most popular, with 16% of Internet users, while Sky Anytime came in third, with 12%.
Downloading shows from the internet is gaining in popularity. According to the research, the number of people watching downloads has doubled from 1.3 million in 2006 to 2.4 million in 2007.
The report found that 2.9 million people have watched streamed TV online, and a further 2.4 million expect to do so in the next year.
