IPTV in China boosts overhaul
There is a huge interest in IPTV in China, of course this is mainly confined to the major cities, which is why there is a need to overhaul the phone services network. This is problem more or less everywhere, when broadband first began to grow, now with so many subscribers the system is barely hanging on.
It was estimated that for this year around half million IPTV set top boxes would be sold, the true figure is more like one and half million, this may seem a lot, but in China it is not a very high percentage. Though it is expected that by the year 2011 the number of subscribers will be approaching 17 million, that is a lot of set top boxes and indeed a lot of upgrading to the network which is to carry the services to the boxes.
2011 is going to be a very busy year in the IPTV as it keeps popping up as the common factor in many quotes from all around the world as guide to how much revenue or how many subscribers there are going in…….
The first major test for IPTV in China will be the Olympics in Beijing, but this is next year and the services are unlikely to be much different than they are right now. But the great thing about an international event like the Olympics is what goes on behind the scenes, all those services providers in one place at one time, now that has to be good for business.
