$26 billion video revenue in US by 2011!
With revenues falling in the Telecom market, the providers are ever-increasing looking towards IPTV to be the industries next big thing. In fact there are claims that the video market alone could be worth an estimated $26 billion by the year 2011, just four years away!
The voice product that is the main business of the Telecom industry has dropped considerably over the past couple of years, with fierce competition and the improvements to the VOIP services now available. IPTV is seen by the Telecom sector as their chance to recapture some of the lost revenues by offering services through their networks.
IPTV is not just video though, they will be able to offer access to digital music, gaming, data service and other services including home security products. This market sector is estimated to be worth around $1 billion by 2010 and will increase on a yearly basis.
But it will be the ability to show pay per view (PPV) events, that will establish IPTV as a viable alternative to other forms of media, with the Olympics next year in China and World Cup Football too being held in South Africa in 2010, these event are ideal for PPV and could see a jump in the use of IPTV, if the services are packaged right.
