IPTV Making a Move on Medicine

by Kathryn Lang

China is an IPTV market that is ripe for the picking. IBA Health is ready to partake of the harvest.

The software developer has recently arranged to invest up to seven million dollars in a joint venture in the region. The Shanghai People’s Health Information Technology Co. Ltd, will pump out medical television shows across an internet based health channel.

IBA will be the majority partner in the venture. It is partnering with BesTV which is jointly owned by Shanghai Media Group and China Telecom. IBA will maintain 51 percent of the control. The programs will be produced over China’s BesTV internet protocol television (IPTV) network.

China has one of the largest internet markets in the world. With over 100 million users, it is no wonder that many companies are looking to take advantage of technology like IPTV. Over a quarter million users are already on broadband, making them ready candidates for the service.

IBA has put together an exclusive agreement for access to China’s only national license for IPTV. This will open up significant opportunities for the company. It also sets the stage for the way that healthcare will be delivered and advanced in the future. The joint venture will help doctors and patients by allowing consultations to be conducted over the worldwide web.

The new IPTV health channel is scheduled to go live in May. IBA is getting in early on the IPTV potential in China.
