Hamonic Picked For IPTV Delivery by MTS

by Alan Harten

At the TelcoTV 2008 in Anaheim California this week, Harmonic announced that MTS Allstream is to begin making use of the company’s MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) high definition (HD) and standard definition (SD) video processing solutions.

This will be part of MTS Allstream’s further expansion into the IPTV market.

Making use of Harmonic’s solutions will allow the company to transmit images that will be the equivalent in quality of MPEG-2, while only using around half of the broadband capacity to deliver both SD and HD programming to its customers in the Canadian province of Manitoba.

The actual equipment being used for the installation from Harmonic will include
DiviCom, Electra 7000 and DiviCom.

In addition Ion AVC encoder’s will power MTS Allstream’s expanded IPTV service.
