IPTV networks go rural

by Brian Turner

They’re here – or at least they are on their way.

It seems even in the country you can’t get away from technology any more. Providers, such as Falcon Communications, Inc. and SES Americon are targeting the rural communities with their IPTV services. The key is to find a way to give the areas the new technology without the expense of building or buying the ecosystems.

IP/Complete is the system being made by Falcon Communication Inc. for these lower tier telcos. SES Americon is hitting the market with IP Prime, which it promoted heavily to two of the major trade groups last year: NTCA and NRTC. Both are being promoted today as turn key offerings that will provide everything a user could need in one package.

The package has not been priced as of today, but both organizations hope the incentives offered will be enough to entice every consumer.

IP/Complete by Falcon Communications, Inc. will start small with only 145 channels, but has promised future additional channels and high definition as well. The system will come with installation, signal management, and testing with final delivery.

IP Prime from SES Americon, which was scheduled to launch last summer but will be commercially available early next year, will have roughly 400 channels and high definition programming.

The race is on and it seems that once again it is the consumer that will wins.
