Online TV audience doubles

by Jan Harris

Ofcom has published its 2008 Communications Market Report, which shows that the number of people with an internet connection watching TV programmes online has more than doubled from 8% to 17% in the past year.

More people are now watching videoclips and webcasts than previously, with 32 percent of internet users watching this type of content, compared with just 21 percent in 2006.

The number of people in the UK watching YouTube almost doubled to nine million in April 2008.

It seems that although people aren’t watching any more TV, they are favouring technologies that give them more control of their viewing.
