Neptuny announces ContentWise for IPTV

by Jan Harris

Milan-based IT performance management company, Neptuny, is launching a predictive content recommendation system for IPTV operators at the IBC 2007 event.

The system, called ContentWise, will recommend content which fits a viewers tastes and requirements. Neptuny believes that there is an increasing demand for the system, with IPTV content growing rapidly.

The system will generate recommendations based on user ratings and content metadata. An operator can add business rules, in order to promote content to meet marketing objectives for example.

ContentWise collects information from all users using a system called ‘Collaborative Filtering’. This collects information about content previously watched by the viewer and recommends items based on ratings from other users with similar tastes.

It also uses Content-based Filtering based upon the content meta-data such as actor, director etc.
