Tandberg to supply equipment and services to SBS

by David Masters

Ericssons Special Broadcasting Service in Australia has awarded Tandberg Television the contract to supply equipment and services in a deal to provide IPTV services.

SBS is Australia’s multicultural and multilingual public service, which provides Internet TV, transcoding, management and distribution. Initially the service will be available on broadband video, which can be accessed through sbs.com, but the service is planned to be rolled out across other platforms and through syndication with partner businesses.

The management of SBS see this deal as an essential tool to get their services, such as news, movies, entertainment and current affairs programming, in front of a much wider audience, in fact they are expecting to see their figures for video streaming double over the next twelve months. This puts a lot of pressure on the deal itself, because clearly both parties have long term plans for the future beyond the first year mark.
