IPTV launched in Italy by Tiscali
Tiscali has launched its IPTV service in Italy. Tiscali TV has immediate availability in Cagliari, Milan and Rome, and will be expanded across the rest of the country in 2008. Over 50 channels are presently on offer.
It will be offered free, where available, until the end of March 2008.
The service features personal video recorder functionality and time-shifting, with the entire range of programmes available on-demand for up to 48 hours after broadcast. It also features My TV, which allows users to create their own personalised programme schedule, as well as Your TV, which features user-generated content.
There are also dedicated video on demand channels, and the set-top box supplied is capable of receiving high-definition content as it becomes available.
Other special areas created for the service include Area Bambini, which offers interactive channels for children, Area Cinema offering movies divided into themes, and Area Musica, featuring a range of music channels and a channel dedicated to live concerts.
