IPTV deployment tops DSL Forum agenda

by Brian Turner

Discussions on IPTV dominated the DSL Forum discussion in August, leading the way for an extensive focus on IPTV mass deployment issues at the next meeting.

Key areas of discussion include a working plan to expedite IPTV standards and best practices, covering areas such as transport improvements set around VDSL2, policy control frameworks and network performance improvements.

Additionally, the DSL Forum is looking at home networking optimisation, including IPTV remote management and Set Top Box (STB) initiation advancements.

These all fall under a general three point plan focusing on the digital home, the access network and the control plane

The DSL Forum is already working on a IPTV Installation Best Practices White Paper and another White Paper for IPTV configuration Best Practices.

Other areas for discussion for December include Quad-play service Management and CWMP Test and Interoperability specifications, as well as DSL Line Profiles for DSM/DLM for Video Services.

The DSL Forum’s next meeting is on December 10-13th in Lisbon, Portugal.
