Global Digital to ship IP set-top boxes to USA
Global Digital Broadcast (GDB), which is based in Hove, East Sussex, is to become the first company to ship IP set-top boxes from the UK to the USA.
The company has secured an additional sale order for 70,000 units of its audio visual entertainment centre (AVEC) and has had to seek assurances from manufacturers that they will be able to produce one million boxes per month.
GDB operates one of the world’s largest networks of independent content owners and community channels for IPTV and is in the process of developing more IPTV channels.
US-based IPTV company, IVNet.tv ordered 50,000 units from GDP. It will run its own iStream service and also carry Global Digital Broadcast channels on the box.
SuncasTV launched its GDB-hosted IP channel on June 1. It has placed an order for 20,000 units.
The AVEC box carries over 100 GDB channels which can be viewed on a normal television set via a broadband connection. It is currently the only fully-functional, open, IP set-top box on the market.
