Amino remains leader of IPTV STB market
Cambridge-based Amino Communications has been ranked the world leading vendor of pure IPTV set-top boxes (STBs) for the third year running.
The accolade came from ABI Research in its ‘Pure IPTV’ report, which differentiates between ‘Pure IPTV’ and ‘Hybrid IPTV’ services.
Hybrid IPTV services are generally traditional terrestrial, satellite or cable TV service which use IP to provide interactive features and video-on-demand.
In order to move from Hybrid to Pure IPTV, deployed equipment must have sufficient IP capability to handle all service requirements.
Some hybrid systems are unable to make the transition as they do not have the necessary IPTV technology elements.
According to ABI Research, selecting a STB is a key decision for service providers, if they plan to eventually move from a Hybrid IPTV model to a Pure IPTV model.
Amino Communications supplies AmiNET brand STBs which are designed to provide a reliable and cost effective solution.
AmiNET STBs provide MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 encoding standards, standard and high definition TV, personal video recording and home networking, and have been deployed commercially in 80 countries.
