Two million IPTV set top box sales from Motorola
Motorola announced at IBC2007 in Amsterdam that it has shipped its two millionth Internet Protocol set top box, within five months of shipping the first. This impressive achievement demonstrates the rapid growth of the IPTV market.
The company has joined the Microsoft Mediaroom Interoperability and Qualification Lab (IQ Lab) for digital video encoders, which is a program that will enable the ongoing interoperability and compliance of encoders used in deployments of the award-winning Microsoft Mediaroom multimedia and IPTV software platform.
The rational behind this is to implement the highly efficient MPEG-4 compression technology, which will benefit from greatly reduced evaluation time through inter-operability with the Microsoft Mediaroom environment.
The company recognises that the television market is fundamentally changing as consumers demand more choice, more control and more interactivity in the way they access TV. Motorola has a 50-year heritage in the video business and is committed to leading the market, helping it grow and ensuring that its customers are armed with the best technology.
Motorola is building on its global IPTV leadership by ensuring that its customers have access to solutions that work flawlessly on their networks. As demand for IPTV continues to grow and markets transfer from MPEG-2 to MPEG 4 compression technologies, telcos can now have total confidence in the combined Motorola/ Microsoft IPTV solution without the need for lengthy evaluation.
