Telecom Argentina’s IPTV testing begins in June
Telecom Argentina is planning to begin technical tests of its IPTV service in June.
There is a possibility that the commercial launch of the service may be postponed until the government offers permits to telecom companies to offer broadcasting services. Telecom Argentina, and its competitor Telefonica de Argentina, have been waiting to enable this service once the current legislations are relaxed.
Analysts consider there are no signs of changes in the law, which currently prohibits telcos from getting into TV broadcasting, this year.
The process may take some time to complete as there are several interests involved.
Telecom Argentina SA is a leading local telephone company for the northern part of Argentina, including half of the city of Buenos Aires.
Telecom Argentina's local telephone market, along with Telefónica de Argentina in the southern part of the country, was a monopoly till 1999. The company also owns mobile phone service Personal and Internet service provider Arnet.
