Former ITV West head launches Mendip TV
Steve Eddington, the publisher of regional news magazine Mendip Time, has launched Mendip TV, a new on demand IPTV channel.
Eddington, the former head of ITV West, launched the channel following three years work with software specialists to create a cutting-edge interactive video platform.
Eddington’s vision was to create an interactive channel that allowed viewers to do more than passively watch video.
Mendip TV viewers can pause the video and switch to any number of sites through a slider panel at the side of the main player. They can also view related articles from Mendip Times, or access the Mendip Times site itself.
The software was developed by Ji-Tu TV. It can be used in a wide range of applications and can support a complete TV schedule and archive service.
Eddington launched Medip Times, a free, quality monthly magazine, in 2005, in collaboration with former TV planning editor Mark Adler.
The magazine has grown rapidly and now has a print-run of 18,000. It can be accessed in full via the Internet - a multi-media approach that Eddington believes is vital for the future success of local media.
The journalist once told the Society of Editors annual conference that newspapers would sink if they stuck to ink.
