CopperStream home networking solution announced

by Jan Harris

CopperGate Communications revealed CopperStream CG3210, its highest speed home networking solution over coax and phone wires, at the CES event in Las Vegas.

The CopperStream CG3210 chipset is compatible with HomePNA 3.1, a standard for distributing entertainment data over both existing coax cable and phone lines, which delivers fast data rates and guarantees Quality of Service.
The high data rate enables rich digital content to be distributed, a feature which is becoming essential as emerging applications such as multi-room IPTV PVRs are adopted by consumers.

Coppergate’s CG3210 chipset significantly enhances the CopperStream product line which is used across the world for the distribution of IP services within the home.

The CG3210 chipset provides user data throughput at up to 240 Megabits per second. It incorporates an ITU G.9954 compatible HomePNA 3.1 MAC and PHY, Ethernet MAC and RISC processor capable of running the HomePNA 3.1 protocol stack.

It provides remote management and diagnostics capabilities and is fully backward compatibility with CopperGate’s previous products.

Coppergate has started sampling the CG3210 chipset to customers.
