BBC Worldwide America to distribute ‘The Office’

by Jan Harris

BBC Worldwide (BBCWW) America has secured distribution agreements with Netflix and Vuze, which will make popular sitcom ‘The Office’ available for legal download in the US.

The deal makes the complete two seasons of ‘The Office’, which stars Ricky Gervais and was written by Stephen Merchant, available to Netflix and Vuze subscribers.

Netfix’s six million subscribers and Vuze’s seven million users will be able to download ‘The Office from this summer.

The series will be available from Netflix on a rental basis and on DVD, while Vuze will sell episodes on a pay-per-view basis. The first episode will be available for free.

The deal builds on BBCWW’s existing relationship with Vuze - it already offers other series including Coupling, Little Britain, Fawlty Towers and Doctor Who.

‘The Office’ will also be available for free, through BBC America On Demand on Comcast and Time Warner cable, from the autumn.
