Amir Khan Fight Live On IPTV

by Jan Harris

On June 21st, Amir Khan’s Commonwealth lightweight title fight against Michael Gomez in the UK, was watched live on IPTV by viewers in North America.

Ether Digital, assisted by encoding partner Garland Partners Ltd, streamed live video of the match over the Internet, using the Viewcast Niagara®Pro digital video encoding platform.

The 8-hour broadcast was a pilot trial, in which the technical team from Garland worked with London-based Ether Digital’s engineers to successfully provide continuous coverage of the event.

Ether Digital’s “Miomni” technology allows companies to market their products via their own global IPTV channel.

During 2008, Ether Digital plans to roll out full production services for streaming live sports events, building on the success of its Web TV services.
