Nortel considers IPTV and VoIP acquisitions
by Jan Harris
Nortel Networks, the Canadian telecoms equipment manufacturer, is in takeover mode.
According to Reuters the company is in talks with potential takeover targets in key sectors including IPTV, VoIP and enterprise. Companies considered as possible targets include Tellabs, Sonus Networks and Foundry Networks.
Nortel’s 2007 second-quarter results fell short of analyst’s expectations, with revenue down 8% to US$2.562bn, compared with the previous year.
Nortel also recorded a small loss rather than the expected modest profit. The company is, however, confident of its full-year result.
