Tiscali expands TV service with new PVR
Tiscali has launched a new PVR (personal video recorder) for its ‘Tiscali TV’ IPTV service in the UK - the Tiscali+.
Tiscali+ has a 160 GB hard drive and three TV tuners, allowing the user to record two channels while watching a third. It connects via a telephone line.
The PVR supports high-definition content and is compatible with the BBC’s iPlayer, and Channel 4’s 4oD, on demand services.
Tiscali is believed to be in talks with ITV and Channel 5 to provide access to their on-demand content as well.
Tiscali+ is available for a one-off fee of £50, and new customers will also have to sign up to a 12 month contract costing £15.99 a month for the first three months and £19.99 a month thereafter.
The new PVR will allow Tiscali to meet the growing demand from viewers to be able to watch what they want, when they want, rather than being tied to linear schedules.
Tiscali expects its TV service to be available to 50% of UK homes by this summer, after equipping phone exchanges around the UK for the TV-over-DSL. It now has almost as much geographical coverage as Virgin Media.
