IPTV Gets More Service Competition
IPTV has a new sheriff in town. Babelgum has launched its version of the internet television in order to compete against rival Joost.
The new IPTV service, currently in beta for, is similar to Joost and is being based on the same P2P technology. It will stream full length, professional quality content, but it doesn’t all viewers to save the video that they watch.
Though the two IPTV services are similar, there are some standout differences. Babelgum has the “smart channel’ feature that will take note of the content a viewer chooses and then deliver future content catered to those interests. This could be a big shot in the arm for television advertisers which would be able to ensure a more targeted market.
The Babelgum IPTV interface should be easy for consumers – it is clear and simple. The success of the service depends on the content that will be offered. It is planning on signing up plenty of niche content and even paying providers a bonus based on the number of views received. It should make the IPTV service a contender.
The Joost IPTV has a head start in the competition. It has already signed deals with many major content providers. Even with these agreements in place, it is likely that Babelgum will not be the only service to enter the IPTV market.
