IPTV Making Its Way West
IPTV is making its way into the India-West Indies market. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL), the state owned telecom provider, is set to launch the service soon.
The new IPTV service in the region will give customers several benefits over the traditional cable or satellite services. Customers will be able to store programs and broadcasts for viewing at a later time. They will also have a wide variety of broadcast channels, live events and pay channels from which to choose. They will even be able to send personalized messages using the service.
Another benefit for customers will be the option to bundle all of their services. They will be able to get one bill for their internet, telephone, and IPTV.
IPTV is the latest technology that is a convergence in telecom and entertainment spectrum. It allows for the transmitting of broadcast channels of all kinds over existing telephone lines.
The use of IPTV over the phone line does not hinder other uses of that same line. Customers are able to use the telephone, use the Internet, and experience IPTV all at the exact same time.
IPTV has uses outside of the home. It offers great opportunities for the classroom as well. With video options that are available and with online training, IPTV opens up a new world to the education field.
BSNL is hoping its IPTV offerings will replace the local cable services in the region.
