Skinkers secures £8m investment in Livestation
Skinkers has received second-round funding of nearly £8 million to develop its Livestation broadband broadcast platform.
The funding came from existing investors Spark Ventures, Acacia Capital Partners and the company’s management team.
The funding will also be used to further develop Skinkers’ Live Notification Platform products.
The Livestation software is a cost-effective solution for distributing live television and radio over broadband networks. The solution provides live streaming, as opposed to video on demand.
The solution is based on peer network technology developed by Skinkers and Microsoft Research, which holds a minority stake in the company.
The new funding will allow Skinkers to launch a closed technical trial of the technology, which will run until the end of the year and will feature channels from international broadcasters.
The commercial launch of the technology could come as early as 2008 if the trials are positive.
