Innovative IPTV service for elderly people in Hull
Broadband Capital, the creator of ‘Stream’, an on-demand, broadband TV service, has joined with Hull City Council to provide an innovative service for vulnerable, older people in the city.
The venture is part of a restructuring of Hull City Council’s Community Care services. Telehealth and telecare services will be introduced to help vulnerable older people remain in their own homes.
The ‘STREAM Independent Living’ service combines services for the over 65s in an interactive one-stop shop, which is accessible at any time.
The IPTV service provides information about local services and local events, and also provides email and electronic games such as Sudoku.
Residents will receive a free broadband-enabled set top box, providing access to the free to air digital channels and local video-rich public services, entirely on demand.
Over 100 programmes will be available on a range of topics, such as health and benefits. Content and information from other web-based systems will be included.
Stream builds a profile of each individual so that the service can be customised to be relevant for each user.
Residents will be able to book appointments through the service, and reminders can be superimposed over television channels.
Residents can take advantage of a six week programme of support, provided by Hull Churches Home from Hospital, to help them adapt to digital television and use the Stream service.
