Tiscali extending IPTV to 10 million UK homes
Tiscali SpA is extending its IPTV service to 5 million homes in the UK and plans to increase this to 10 million homes by Christmas.
As well as being available in London and Stevenage, Tiscali TV is now being rolled out across the UK.
Cities with the telephone infrastructure already in place for the service include Milton Keynes, Hemel Hempstead, Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Leicester, Liverpool, Salford and Warrington.
The service will be extended to further locations in the north east and Scotland in October.
Tiscali is also upgrading its TV packages to offer two-megabit broadband, telephony and TV starting from £19.99.
Around 50 digital TV channels will be available to UK subscribers, including Sky One, Sky News and Sky Sport News. Sky Sports 1, 2 and 3 and Sky Movies channels will be available for an additional charge.
Tiscali’s customers in areas now covered by its TV offering, will be able to upgrade their existing broadband and telephony service, to receive a free TV set-top box, wireless modem and installation. New customers will have to pay an installation fee of £30.
Tiscali is also discussing a deal with Irish broadcaster Setanta, which would add Premier League football coverage to its television service.
