Tiscali in IPTV distribution deal with RAI

by Jan Harris

Tiscali SpA, the Italian telco, has entered into a distribution agreement with Italian public broadcaster RAI.

Under the terms of the agreement, Tiscali will distribute content from RAI on its IPTV service in Italy, which will be launched in late October.

Tiscali already operates an IPTV service in the UK, through its Homechoice subsidiary.

Intially, Tiscali will broadcast a number of RAI’s specialist channels, including RAI Cultura, RAI Fiction and RAI Junior.

The Tiscali IPTV service will also include PVR features, which will allow access on demand to the three channels and also to RAI’s general broadcasting services RAI 1, RAI 2 and RAI 3.

Tiscali has 3.3 million customers in Italy and the UK, with 2 million subscribing to its ADSL service.
