OSTN to provide IPTV service to students

by Jan Harris

The Open Student Television Network (OSTN) is partnering with the Janet academic network to provide IPTV programming to around 18 million UK students.

Educational, foreign language, news, and entertainment television content will be provided via IP technology to students at colleges, universities and schools in the UK.

OSTN provides a twenty-four hour worldwide channel devoted to student-produced programming. It broadcasts content from more than 50 higher education institutions.

OSTN allows students to gain experience of working with a national network. They can produce material and present their work in a national forum.

A study is underway on the requirements for IPTV on the Janet network.
