IPTV sees big growth in Asia
The use of Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) is exploding in the Asia-Pacific market. Fueled by factors like less revenues for the landline services, consumer demand for more control over programming, and the use of broadband, IPTV has had a high growth rate in the region.
As IPTV continues to grow and develop its technology, it is likely that there will be a continued increase in the amount of revenue per user. This makes the area of IPTV an even more attractive investment for providers than the traditional fixed line services (where revenues have continued to be on the decline.).
Because of the large number of broadband users already in China, it has been a region that is particularly hot for IPTV. Providers are looking to China to provide nearly 60 percent of the regions IPTV revenue.
Many of the Asia-Pacific countries already have IPTV available. By the end of 2007, most all of the area should have access to the technology.
Most consumers find IPTV a promising choice for their viewing purposes. The number one complaint has been the lack of programming available at present. This is soon to change. As the popularity of IPTV grows, so will partnerships with content providers and broadcast companies. This will ensure a future full of variety in programming for the IPTV subscribers.
The only real hold ups for IPTV growth in the Asia-Pacific region is a lack of sufficient bandwidth and skewed broadband distribution.
