IPTV Future Explained
IPTV is just one of the many internet based technologies that seems to be changing, improving, and redesigning at a break neck speed. Companies that are eager to participate in the growing consumer base are finding it complicated to stay up to date with the changes.
Cisco Systems has sponsored the development of a track, COMPTEL PLUS, covering three core topics – including IPTV. It was designed to explain the trends and discuss next-generation services and the issues providers will face.
Providers are at the front of the IPTV development efforts today. Each company is looking to meet the needs of its subscribers, enhance the video experience, and expand the use of existing technology while developing new. It’s no small order.
For providers to be able to give the consumer all that is eventually going to be asked for, they must be willing and able to converge networks and services. This is an all-in-one-stop society (just look at the popularity of the mega mart). Consumers want TV, internet, phone, Mobile devices, PC options, and gaming all in one product or subscription.
Offering multi-tiered services, including IPTV, will require that the providers prepare their network infrastructure for an increase in traffic. It will also require the companies to converge networking so that it can span wireless and wire line networks.
